THO's Outreach Focuses Beyond Washington

THO Executive Director presents at Turkish-Canadian Youth Congress

From February 10th to 12th, THO Executive Director Yenal Kucuker attended the 9th Annual Turkish-Canadian Youth Congress in Ottawa, Canada. At the congress, Mr. Kucuker gave a presentation on THO activities and programs to an audience of over 40 Turkish-Canadian youth. He also met with Turkish Ambassador to Canada Selcuk Unal and Ambassador (Ret.) Rafet Akgunay. THO Advisory Board member Dr. Edward Erickson also gave a presentation titled “WWI Relocations in Anatolia.”

The Turkish-Canadian Youth Congress, which is organized every year by the Council of Turkish Canadians, aims to bring together Turkish-Canadian youth to allow them to build friendships, learn about community involvement, and address issues pertaining to the Turkish-Canadian community.

This year’s congress featured a variety of panels on the Turkish diaspora and Turkish history, as well as lectures on essential skills for community organizing, including leadership. Participants also had the opportunity to meet with distinguished guests, including ambassadors, politicians, academics, and experts.

THO President attends JCRC-NY’s congressional breakfast

On February 12th, THO President Ali Cinar attended the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York’s (JCRC-NY) 2017 Congressional Breakfast. The event featured remarks from six House representatives from the state of New York on key issues of concern to the Jewish-American community. During the breakfast, Mr. Cinar met with Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, Rep. Yvette Clarke, Rep. Tom Suozzi, and Rep. Carolyn Maloney.
